Poltava Gas and Oil Company (JV PPC) has donated a diesel generator to Mykhailo-Kotsiubynsky Lyceum in the Chernihiv region. This backup power source will accelerate the restoration of the lyceum’s operations and provide additional energy resources for the school’s continued functioning.
To recap, this is the second time the Mykhailo Kotsyubynsky Lyceum has been rebuilt following Russian attacks. The school first sustained damage on March 4, 2022. At that time, a rocket pierced through the second and first floors of the building, destroying a significant portion of it.
To raise funds for the school’s initial reconstruction, Ukrainian coach Andriy Shevchenko and soccer player Oleksandr Zinchenko organized a charity soccer match, Game4Ukraine, in London. In addition, the government separately allocated 64 million hryvnias for the school’s restoration, raised through the UNITED24 platform.
Major repairs following the 2022 attack were completed in January 2026. However, on the night of June 12, 2026, the school was again hit by a Russian attack. According to local residents and school staff, the building was struck by four drones. As a result of the shelling, all the renovated classrooms were destroyed.
Despite being destroyed again, the lyceum continues its restoration efforts. Since September 1, students have been attending classes remotely. The school’s management is working to restore the facility’s functionality before the onset of winter frosts.
“In my opinion, the Mykhailo Kotsyubynsky Lyceum has become a kind of another symbol of Ukrainian resilience. After the second attack, when virtually all the efforts of the past four years were destroyed by the russians, Ukrainians, together with foreign partners, are rebuilding the lyceum once again. Parents have also decided that their children will continue their education at this very lyceum. The school has even enrolled the first-grade class. As a Ukrainian, I am proud of such fellow citizens,” said Vitalii Dorohan, CEO of JV PPC.
